Subscriptions are not currently donated and cannot be purchased from Microsoft through the Open License programme.

Forefront TMG builds on the technologies of Internet Security and Acceleration Server, which Microsoft no longer offers. Organisations with licences for ISA whose Software Assurance was current at the time of Forefront TMG's release can obtain it through their Software Assurance benefit.

Licensing: This product is licensed under the processor licensing model, with a license required for each physical or virtual processor accessed by an operating system environment running a TMG server. This license does not require any device or user CALs.

Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition (Includes Software Assurance)

Requirements:
For help planning your deployment, see Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide.
Features:
  • Under the Software Assurance programme, customers acquire the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of their coverage.
  • Office Communications Server is incorporated into the interfaces of preexisting Office products, including Outlook, Communicator, and Live Meeting.
  • Remote users can access communications solutions without first logging into a virtual private network (VPN).
  • The IM conferencing server is compatible with all major IM systems, allowing clients and associates to communicate with employees without installing new software.
  • Encrypted communication protects sensitive information without limiting software functionality.

Description:

Office Communications Server 2007 facilitates, unifies, and moderates real-time communication by a variety of methods. Office Communications Server supports instant messaging (IM), presence information, Web conferencing, and telephony, all utilizing pre-existing software and technology in an office environment.

This offering is the enterprise edition, which can support unlimited users and allows individual components to be deployed on dedicated servers. The enterprise edition requires a dedicated back end SQL database on a separate server. The standard edition, also available from TechSoup Stock, runs on a single server and can support up to 5000 users.

Additional processor licences can be acquired through Microsoft's Charity Open Licencing programme.

Office Communications Server can serve as a hub for all live communications within an organisation and with people outside the organisation. Users connected to Office Communications Server can participate in IM and voice conversations and share Office documents. Meetings can be requested and launched through a special menu in Outlook or through a Web interface.

Office Communications Server's IM functionality works with Office Communicator and Microsoft Live Meeting. Additionally, it provides access through a Web-based interface and most popular IM clients, allowing constituents and associates outside of the office to communicate conveniently. When a third user is invited to a conversation, the IM Conferencing Server relays messages among participants regardless of what IM clients the participants are using. The transition to a multiple-user conference is automatic with no cosmetic changes.

Office Communications Server can manage both voice over IP (VoIP) and traditional (PSTN) telephony. Participants may use any combination of physical phones and Office Communicator's voice interface. By adhering to industry telephony standards, Office Communications Server can work within the confines of an organisation's existing telephone and PBX systems.

Through close integration with other Microsoft Office products, Office Communications Server supports multiple venues for collaboration and application-sharing. PowerPoint presentations can be utilised and distributed within a Web conference and Office documents can be edited in real time by local and remote participants.

Office Communications Server also accommodates live audio and video conferencing among multiple users. Office Communications Server is compatible with Microsoft RoundTable or any device adherent to RTP or RTCP protocols.

The R2 release adds desktop sharing capabilities, on-premise audio conferencing, and extended Communicator Mobile functionality for remote and mobile users.

Licence Requirements: This product includes only the licence for a server running Office Communications Server. Each user or device that accesses the IM or presence capabilities of Office Communications Server must have an Office Communications Server standard user or device client access licence (CAL) or be covered by a standard external connector (EC) licence.

In addition to the standard CAL or EC licence, each user or device that accesses the web conferencing, telephony, and application sharing capabilities must have an Office Communications Server enterprise user or device CAL or be covered by an enterprise EC licence.

Acquiring the Installation Media and Licence Key: Installing this product requires installation media and a licence key. Installation media will be shipped to you free of charge.

The licence key allows you to use the installation media to install the product on as many computers as you have received donations for. This quantity is specified in the donation email sent to your organisation email address after your eligibility has been verified and your administrative fee has been received.

Features:
  • Under the Software Assurance Programme, customers acquire the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of their coverage.
  • Bandwith requirement for network mirroring is minimized by single-thread database mirroring with log stream compression of data transmissions between participants.
  • Predictable query performance through locking down query plans allows organizations to promote stable query plans across hardware server replacements, server upgrades, and production deployments.
  • Partitions enable organizations to manage large growing tables more effectively by transparently breaking them into manageable blocks of data. SQL Server 2008 builds on the advances of partitioning in SQL Server 2005 by improving the performance on large partitioned tables.
  • New Microsoft Word rendering enables users to view reports directly from within Word; the Excel renderer has been enhanced to accommodate the support of nested data regions, subreports, and merged cell improvements.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition is a complete data storage, management, analysis, and reporting platform for medium-size organizations and larger departments. It can be used as a back-end database server for internal applications or for powering a dynamic Web site.

The management interface is SQL Server Management Studio, a graphical management tool for all SQL Server components with rich scripting capabilities. SQL Server Management Studio includes Policy-Based Management, which can create policies that manage entities on the server, such as the instance of SQL Server, databases, and other SQL Server objects.

SQL Server offers development tools that are tightly integrated with the Microsoft .NET framework and Visual Studio to provide end-to-end application development capabilities.

This is a server license with one processor license. Although SQL Server 2008 supports up to four CPUs, a separate processor license is required for each processor that is located on the server running the SQL Server software. A processor license includes access for an unlimited number of users to connect from inside the corporate local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) or outside the firewall. Customers do not need to purchase client access licenses (CALs).

32-Bit and x64 Versions: The installation media for this product is a DVD-ROM that can be used for 32-bit, 64-bit AMD, 64-bit Intel Xeon, or 64-bit Intel Itanium platforms. The 32-bit version can be installed on the Windows on Windows (WOW64) 32-bit subsystem of a 64-bit server.
