Under the Software Assurance program, customers acquire the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of their coverage.

This user client access license (CAL) authorizes one user to access Office Communications Server or Live Communications Server from any device (for example, when an employee accesses the server from a computer at work and another at home).

  • This standard CAL supports the instant message and presence capabilities of Office Communications Server 2007. For conferencing and voice and call management, an enterprise CAL is required.
  • Live Communications Server 2005 does not have separate standard and enterprise CALs; only the one license is needed.

Device CALs are also available. A device CAL authorizes one computer to access Office Communications Server, regardless of the number of users (for example, on a shared workstation).
